Really? You want a new concept for harvest moon so now I’m running a gotdamn shop?!?
I mean c’mon! Maybe if the creator of harvest moon & his team spent a little extra time on a game & money, then maybe the last several harvest moon games would’ve…
Really? Well the way they have it written on google, it seems he’s making a new HM game & messing it up. And even if he’s gone, it’s not like they’ve had a great harvest moon game since HM: DS
Whoever wrote that is wrong. ;) It’s an entirely separate game, it’s only relation to HM that it has the same creator.
Well, that’s subjective. I very much dislike DS/Cute with yet another ‘save the HG!’ plot, subpar graphics (too close to M/FOMT, way too simple for the DS), annoying ‘collect the sprites’ mechanic, and headache inducing interface (stylus only bottom screen, if the MC falls asleep you have to stop and press a button to continue using the bottom screen, insanely difficult to separate large groups into single items, awkwardly switching from buttons to stylus), and I like Island of Happiness very much. For all the flack it’s gotten about the controls, I found them extremely easy to master (within the first twenty minutes of playing!) and even praiseworthy (very welcoming to lefthanders with the ability to use either buttons or d pad and changing the side of the screen the menu and tool slots are on, I’m lefthanded and many games do not take us into consideration, plus when gifting I pretty much never drop items.), and stuff like the sun and water point system…I don’t count, I just water as feels appropriate and I’ve not had any problems thus far, I’m in my second year ingame. It’s not a perfect game, but it’s very enjoyable, and I prefer it to DS/Cute.
I’ve not played anything more recent than IoH, though.
See I absolutely hate having to save the HG on any game. & the whole sprites thing irritated me like no other.
I always felt the creator & game designers never figured out that spacing out goals & projects on harvest moon will keep a player playing & interested because the objective can not always be to save the HG.
I do that, marry & raise children in less than 3 game yrs.
DS Cute is the last HM game I’ve played. Mainly because 3d graphics on the DS give me a headache. The 2d look of DS Cute rlly stuck with me & I’m having a hard time transitioning to the bulky wide 3d graphics.
If they want to use 3ds graphs so bad then they need to go the Pokemon route. It’s so much cleaner & easier to look at. & the detail is great.
And yea the controls were a very shabby but my biggest issue with the latest HM is there’s no growth.
I’m very big on customization & having hundreds of different plants & animals to take care of.
I heard the Japanese versions of HM DS have goats, pigs, alpacas, & a slaughterhouse.
I want that. I also want a stable of horses.
And geese. And activities you can participate in with the townsfolk.
And if you drink too many blue daiquiris at the bar you pass out & it knocks off 10 friendship points Frm everyone in town.
And just goals over the yrs.
HM has just grown stale when it has so much potential, especially with the technology we have today to make games 800 times better than when they were on gameboy.
I just can’t excuse Marvelous E.’s laziness anymore.
I’m pretty confident what you’ve heard about the Japanese HM DS isn’t true. Certainly there was no slaughterhouse, and alpacas weren’t introduced in any version until Tale of Two Towns, I believe. There was a pig in Sunshine Islands, but certainly not in HM DS.
The only big difference is in the Japanese DS Cute you could be ‘best friends’ with one of the special bachelorettes (ie WP, Keria, etc)…but we all know it was actually samesex marriage, regardless of what they called it. You could even have a kid!
I’m sure there were minor differences, like removing references to alcohol and stuff that usually happens when games are localized in the US, but no other big stuff was taken out.
The thing is, when Marvelous tries new stuff they get so much crap for it. They tried new things with IoH, like all touchscreen controls after people complained that HM DS/Cute failed to make good use of the touchscreen, and people declared the game was unplayable (couldn’t be farther from the truth!) They made the farming more challenging, so that you actually have to maybe think about what you’re doing rather than just blindly watering all your crops every single day, and made it so that you couldn’t cheat by manipulating the weather (you were never really meant to do that in the first place, they just didn’t correct that you could use the save/reload trick until IoH), and even though HM is a FARMING GAME, people complained and complained that it was too hard, and how dare they make it so that they have to actually put a little strategy into the game. People even complained about not choosing the gender of their kid. Come on! I know it’s a game, but what’s wrong with a little realism?
It’s risky trying new stuff, because it might wind up like IoH and be almost universally declared as the worst thing ever.
(In case you can’t tell, I’m a fan of IoH, and I think the hate it gets is undeserved. I originally almost passed over it myself because of what people said about the controls, but after reading a lot more about it I gave it a chance, and I’m glad I did.)
The latest HM game, A New Beginning, apparently has a lot of customization. I’ve not played it, but from what I’ve seen, it has it for your character, your farm, your town, your house… There are alpacas in addition to the usual chickens, sheep, and cows, and I believe there are different varieties for each animal (Silkie chickens, Jersey cows, so on.) It’s a step forward, to be sure.
